BATMAN #197 Cover Recreation! Sensational 60s Fun!

I was recently commissioned to recreate the famous cover to BATMAN #197, but in the style of the 90s BATMAN-THE ANIMATED SERIES!

It was so much fun reinterpreting the art of master comics artist Carmine Infantino, trying to evoke his perfect composition and sense of drama!

The goal was to also retain the original "pop art" colors, as seen on the original 1967 comic book cover!

Catwoman! Batgirl! Batwoman! Two Takes on a Terrific Trio!

Here is an incredibly fun recent commission! I was tasked with creating a scenario involving the early Silver-Age versions of Batgirl, Batwoman, and Catwoman, and I came up with a scene that involved the feline felon taunting the duo deep in her catacomb lair!

Next, the same art fan wanted the same scenes revisited, but visually updated to match the modern incarnations of the three DC Comics characters! So much fun!

BATMAN-ALMOST GOT 'IM Original Comic Art! Rare Roughs and Pencils!

I had so much fun working on this wonderful little custom comic (that was included in a now-classic book and tape set), adapting the famed "Almost Got 'im" episode of BATMAN-THE ANIMATED SERIES!

Here are a few pages of my rough pencils for the book, featuring not only the Caped Crusader, but also Killer Croc, Joker, Catwoman, Penguin, Two-Face, and, of course, Harley Quinn (in what's arguably her first comic book appearance)!

"Movie Catwoman" Comic Art Commission! Halle Berry!

Sure, lots of folks dislike the 2004 CATWOMAN film, starring the slinky Halle Berry as the famed Batman foe. But, ya gotta admit, the movie sure had striking visuals, including the design of the lead cavortin' character herself! Looks like more than a few fans love the look of this leggy lawbreaker! One commissioned the very artwork you see here! Click below to enlarge images!

DC Comics Christmas Ornament Designs! Batman! Wonder Woman! Superman!

Here are some rough product concept sketches for some superhero-themed Christmas ornaments! The idea was to create several fun design ideas that also incorporated the character's powers, friends, foes, and props! These were very quick color comps, commissioned by the Hallmark and DC Comics folks! Click images below to enlarge! See more here!

BATMAN-Themed 2011 Holiday Card! From Start to Finish! Harley Quinn!

Since the 90s, I've been commissioned (by famous comic art fan and collector, Tim Chandler) to create a unique BATMAN-related Christmas card! Here is this year's card, one that gets sent to only about 100 lucky recipients! Tim wanted an "outdoor criminal carnival" theme, complete with the usual characters he asks for every year, as well as the usual "right-side-to-left" reveal composition, upon the opening of the card!

Below: Several rough pencil sketches to get some ideas going! Note Harley Quinn's constant moving around the scene, from a (poison gas) balloon booth, to soon trying to "slingshot" Batman and Robin into the drink! The early concept also had face-painted kids milling about the grounds, as well as tons of stolen loot! Click to enlarge all images!

Below, left: Figure sketches done in an effort to work out Nightwing's pose and placement! Below, right: One more pass before the final pencils!

Below: The final pencil version, with Harley moved from her face-painting booth, no kids, Isis the cat in place, and a vat of "expired eggnog" in place of "deadly acid!" Below that is the final inked illustration!

Below: The finished, computer-colored Christmas card!
