BATMAN #197 Cover Recreation! Sensational 60s Fun!

I was recently commissioned to recreate the famous cover to BATMAN #197, but in the style of the 90s BATMAN-THE ANIMATED SERIES!

It was so much fun reinterpreting the art of master comics artist Carmine Infantino, trying to evoke his perfect composition and sense of drama!

The goal was to also retain the original "pop art" colors, as seen on the original 1967 comic book cover!

Incredible Hulk Recreation Art!

I've always loved this simple (but dynamic) image of the Hulk, as drawn in the late-60s by comics artist Herb Trimpe.

This is my attempt at a realistic take on said iconic pose, using marker, ink, crayon, colored pencil, and pastel!

Click below to enlarge!

Below: I took tons of pics (with me as the subject) for reference before starting this painting...

Then I stretched, twisted, and manipulated my pics in Photoshop, to get some

Hulk-like proportions, then used those images to help craft the finished illustration!

Below: Close-up details from the painting.

New Wonder Woman Painting!

Here is a great "just for fun" illustration!

I was going for a kinda "70s air-brushed" retro posterized look, in both the approach and composition, and came darned close!

This was rendered in ink, crayon, and colored pencil!

Batman Aurora Model Kit Sketch Cover!

What fan didn't love (and build) the famous 60s-70s Batman plastic model kit by Aurora?

This often re-released kit has to be one of the most memorable images in comics history, and I wanted to create a sketch cover based on this terrific toy, trying to keep the motion, mood, and dynamics captured in the original 3D statue!

I used ink, crayon, colored pencils, and markers to create this one!

Catwoman! Batgirl! Batwoman! Two Takes on a Terrific Trio!

Here is an incredibly fun recent commission! I was tasked with creating a scenario involving the early Silver-Age versions of Batgirl, Batwoman, and Catwoman, and I came up with a scene that involved the feline felon taunting the duo deep in her catacomb lair!

Next, the same art fan wanted the same scenes revisited, but visually updated to match the modern incarnations of the three DC Comics characters! So much fun!

THE INTRUDERS! Unseen 1990 Artwork! Special Guest--George Perez!

Here are some unseen pages from a wonderful (but unpublished) comics series I pencilled, from 1990, THE INTRUDERS! Imagine ASTRO CITY (we were years earlier) mixed with PULP FICTION (we were years earlier), and you've got a pretty good idea of the tone of this gritty superhero series, thick with past continuity, mystery, and intrigue! Click images to enlarge!

Below three images: Some exciting pages from what was to be the first issue, with inks by Dan Schaefer!

Below two images: Some pencilled pages from the unpublished third issue of THE INTRUDERS, with plots and scripts by Ed Fuqua!

Below: That's right! George Perez drew (what was to be) the cover for our first issue! It was a real kick seeing how such a master comics artist depicted characters I designed and co-created!

Below: The art used for an ad in a 1990 issue of COMICS BUYER'S GUIDE!

Below: Me, circa 1990, at the drawing board! Note the CBG ad posted behind me!
