Incredible Hulk Recreation Art!

I've always loved this simple (but dynamic) image of the Hulk, as drawn in the late-60s by comics artist Herb Trimpe.

This is my attempt at a realistic take on said iconic pose, using marker, ink, crayon, colored pencil, and pastel!

Click below to enlarge!

Below: I took tons of pics (with me as the subject) for reference before starting this painting...

Then I stretched, twisted, and manipulated my pics in Photoshop, to get some

Hulk-like proportions, then used those images to help craft the finished illustration!

Below: Close-up details from the painting.

Jack Kirby's Incredible Hulk! The Making of a Sketch Cover!

Had so much fun working on this new INCREDIBLE HULK sketch cover! I wanted to get that wonderful, weighty, powerful Jack Kirby look, so I based this on one of Jack's very fist drawings of the Hulk! Click images below to enlarge!

Below: My rough sketch, drawn directly on the cover,
along with gray marker tones put in as an
"underpainting" to get things started!

Below: Adding colors atop the underpainting, carefully
following the value contrasts set down in the black-and-white
tones..

Below: Almost done, after adding the color marker,
plus a few touches with crayon, watercolors, and ink...

Below: The finish cover, after adding some acrylic highlights, a
few gray washes here and there, and some colored pencil touches!

The (Re)Making of a CAPTAIN AMERICA Classic Cover!

Just for fun, I decided to create an entirely new (fully painted) take on John Romita's fabulous 1969 cover to CAPTAIN AMERICA #113! Click below to follow along and enlarge images!

Below: Once I blocked out the logos and cover dress from a scan of the original cover,
I printed that portion out on watercolor paper. Next, I sketched in the faces and
elements, then began using marker to start putting in the basic values...

Below: The original '69 cover (left), and my finished cover (right), using marker, colored pencils, and ink! A fun project!

Below: My own "Captain America" cosplay, on which I based the above Cap head shot!
