Always wanted to attempt a painting of comic artist Jack Kirby's fantastic mid-60s Thing (from the FANTASTIC FOUR comics) illustration!
Here is a new sketch cover that references Steve Ditko's 60s art on THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN comic book!
Steve was the artist on the book for its first 4 years, and co-created Spidey with writer Stan Lee!

The folks at DC Comics have published an exciting facsimile reprint of BATMAN #1, from 1940, but this time fronted with a (mostly) blank sketch cover!
I couldn't resist the chance to create a sketch that evokes the "Golden Age" period and the feel of the BATMAN movie serials of the day...

Using a recent facsimile reprint of this famous comic book, I combined the cover to DETECTIVE COMICS #140 (which fronted the first 1948 comics appearance of the Riddler character), with a new sketch of the villain as he later appeared on the 1966 BATMAN TV show!
Yep, that's actor Frank Gorshin as the superfoe, in a wild reimagining of this famed Golden-Age comics cover!
All rendered in ink, marker, colored pencils, and crayon!

Had a ton of fun with this sketch cover, based upon the famous 60s Aurora model kit, but with an added 1950s ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN (the TV series starring George Reeves) twist!

What fan didn't love (and build) the famous 60s-70s Batman plastic model kit by Aurora?
This often re-released kit has to be one of the most memorable images in comics history, and I wanted to create a sketch cover based on this terrific toy, trying to keep the motion, mood, and dynamics captured in the original 3D statue!
I used ink, crayon, colored pencils, and markers to create this one!

Another fun sketch cover, this one sporting a take on Jack Kirby's classic Captain America art from the cover of 1964's TALES OF SUSPENSE #59!
